Resin bond diamonds
Resin-matrix diamond abrasives for refining after grinding and carrying the surface through to a honed or polished finish.
Resin bond tooling suspends diamond in a resin matrix that is softer and more forgiving than metal. It removes the scratch pattern left by grinding and progressively closes the surface.
This is where most of the sequence is spent, and where finish quality is actually decided. Skipping a resin stage is visible in the final surface even when the polish itself is done well.
What it is used for
- Refining the scratch pattern left by metal bond tooling
- Working through grit stages toward honed or polished finishes
- Producing consistent matt and satin finishes on marble and limestone
- Preparing the surface so a polishing stage can develop real reflectivity
How to choose
The decisions that actually change the outcome, rather than the specifications that are easiest to compare.
- Do not skip grits
- Each stage is sized to remove the scratch depth left by the one before. Jumping a grit leaves scratches that show up under the polish, usually only once the floor is wet or in raking light.
- Wet and dry behave differently
- Wet use runs cooler, lasts longer and produces a cleaner cut. Dry use with extraction is faster in occupied buildings but generates heat that can glaze the resin and the stone.
- Flexibility for profiles
- Rigid tooling holds a flat plane; flexible pads follow curves and bullnoses. Using rigid tooling on a profile rounds it, and flexible tooling on a floor loses flatness.
What it will not do
- Cannot remove lippage or level a floor; grinding must come first
- Wears faster than metal bond and is a recurring consumable cost
- Heat from dry use can burn softer stone if speed is not controlled
