Project overview
Penthouse floor restoration finished to a high-gloss, mirror-like reflection that carries the coastal light through an open-plan living area.
What started as a small repair became a complete transformation.
The client originally contacted us after a washing machine leak had left a large white mark across the natural stone floor in the laundry.
During our inspection, however, we discovered that the water damage was only part of the problem. This beautiful Italian stone had been repeatedly polished using surface treatments, with the client having been advised to repeat the process every eight to twelve months as the shine gradually disappeared.
To properly remove the damaged area in the laundry, we needed to mechanically sand and restore the stone. We explained that once this was done, the difference between the newly restored stone and the existing floor would become very noticeable.
The client decided to begin with the laundry.
The floor was mechanically restored, the old contaminated grout was removed and replaced with colour-matched epoxy, and the stone was progressively refined through multiple diamond stages before being taken all the way to 10,000 grit. We then completed the surface with a customised mechanical polishing process specifically formulated for this particular stone, followed by professional sealing and protection.
The result revealed something that had gradually been lost over years of surface treatments: the natural colour, clarity and depth of the stone itself.
When the client saw the finished laundry, she asked us a simple question:
“How long will this polish last?”
Our answer was very different from the eight-month cycle she had become accustomed to. With appropriate care, neutral maintenance products and protection from acidic substances, a properly mechanically restored stone floor should not require constant re-polishing simply to maintain its appearance.
The difference was convincing enough that the original laundry repair became a complete restoration of approximately 150–160 m² of natural stone throughout the home.
The entire floor was flattened to remove existing lippage, the old grout was removed and replaced with seamless colour-matched epoxy, and the stone underwent the same progressive diamond restoration and high-level mechanical polishing process.
The final result wasn’t simply a shinier floor.
It was the original stone brought back to life.
