Project overview

A round natural stone dining-table top that had broken clean through was reassembled, structurally bonded along the break, then machine-honed and polished until the repair line all but disappeared.

A heavy round natural stone dining-table top had cracked completely across its width. We assessed the break on site, dry-fitted the two halves back onto the pedestal to check the alignment, then bonded the join with a colour-tinted stone adhesive worked deep into the crack. Once the adhesive had cured, the excess was scraped and blended back flush, and the whole top was re-ground, honed and polished inside a dust-containment booth so the repair could be brought back to a single continuous surface without moving the table out of the apartment.

The challenge

The top had broken fully in two and could not simply be glued — the join had to be strong enough to carry the weight of a stone slab and invisible enough to sit in the middle of a formal dining setting.

Our restoration approach

Dry-fit and align the halves, bond the break with tinted stone adhesive pushed through the full depth of the crack, scrape back the surplus, then grind, hone and polish the entire top in a sealed booth to re-level the surface across the repair.

The result

The two halves were rejoined into one solid top and the polished surface was carried back across the break, leaving the repaired seam barely perceptible against the natural veining of the stone.
